መዝሙረ ዳዊት የሚለው ቃል መዝገበ ቃላት ፍቺው የተቀደሰ መዝሙር ወይም መዝሙር ሲሆን በተለይም በመዝሙረ ዳዊት ውስጥ ከተሰበሰቡት መጽሐፍ ቅዱሳዊ መዝሙሮች አንዱ ነው። “መዝሙር” የሚለው ቃል የመጣው “መዝሙር” ከሚለው የግሪክ ቃል ሲሆን ትርጉሙም “በበገና የሚዘመር መዝሙር” ማለት ነው። መዝሙራት በሃይማኖታዊ አምልኮ ውስጥ ብዙ ጊዜ ጥቅም ላይ ይውላሉ እና ለአንድ አምላክ የምስጋና፣ የምስጋና ወይም የልቅሶ መግለጫዎች ተደርገው ይወሰዳሉ።
