Matthew is 'n manlike voornaam van Engelse oorsprong. Dit kom van die Griekse naam Ματθαῖος (Matthaios), wat "gawe van Yahweh" of "gawe van God" beteken. Matteus is ook 'n Bybelse naam, en in die Nuwe Testament was Matteus een van die twaalf apostels van Jesus Christus en die skrywer van die Evangelie van Matteus.
